Condition: This was a ruined 1975 Brooks Professional saddle that was sent to me by its original owner, who wanted new leather on it. And he wanted it to be red. So I did all that, doing my best to recreate it as it was when new, but red. Well, something went wrong, apparently with the dye, that made the surface of the leather split where it’s stretched to the maximum around the rear rivets. So now there are a lot of surface cracks all around the cantle plate rivets. My customer was not happy. Well, neither was I, but I was not going to knock out these rivets just yet. I made him another saddle on another 1970’s Brooks Professional frame and he was happy. And I’m left with this.

How serious are the cracks? Sorry, but I just don’t know. My warranty for this saddle: if the leather fails prematurely, I will replace it, standard service, for $50.
